The children have broken up this spring which only means one thing its Easter time, another holiday centred around food, in particular chocolate.
As we spend time with family and friends celebrating the holiday period we are known to overindulge, on food and drink.
We can all enjoy the Easter holidays, by being mindful, I'm getting balance.
There are only two days that we celebrate over Easter, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. However, some use it as an excuse to overindulge the whole Easter week.
Saving the Easter treats to Good Friday and Easter Sunday with moderation and not grazing on the Easter treats all week will support your journey allowing you to enjoy them even more rather than overheating or bingeing.
Enjoying a hot cross bun on Good Friday is a great treat, but the hot cross bun is not just a tasty food item, it has meaning to the Christian faith, the hot cross bun is symbolic 2 when Jesus was crucified as each bun is decorated with a cross made from flour paste, which represents the cross on which Christ died. The spices in the hot cross bun are said to represent the spices that were used to embalm Christ after his death.
An average medium hot cross bun weighs 70g which is equivalent to 218kCal, remember to always weigh.
When it comes to the Easter egg, they represent new life and rebirth. Saving them to enjoy on Easter day rather than eating them in the run up help support our journey. Don't graze on chocolate all weekend, treat yourself but be accountable. It's important not to deprive yourself as that can lead to overeating.
Remember the saying quality over quantity i.e. Dark chocolate over 70% Cocoa, has benefits to your heart, research shows, it also shows dark chocolate consumption in moderation can aid weight loss do too the antioxidants, and flavonoids.
Instead of chocolate eggs for breakfast you could enjoy a fresh hen well duck egg... Boiled, poached, fried or as an omelette.
Embrace your Easter lunch which many of us enjoy roast lamb, a roast dinner can be very healthy offering great balance but remember to count it.
When it comes to your Easter eggs leave the large ones on the shelf as the only line the manufacturers pockets as overpriced, for relationship to weight. Choose alternatives.

If your family and friends enjoy an Easter egg hunt instead of hiding lots of eggs, hide clues around the garden to enjoy the fun but to find only one egg.
If the weather is beautiful enjoy a family/ friend walk taking in the spring air embracing the views of new growth and life.
We can all enjoy Easter achieving balance by being mindful, prioritising quality over quantity eating our chocolate treats in moderation on most importantly enjoying family time together with no guilt staying healthy over Easter.
