When we think of Christmas we think of family, friend and festive treats often leading to overindulgence.
Why at Christmas do we overindulge; often due to the window of opportunity to buy festive treats often not sold at any other time of the year. i.e. for a limited period, and we feel the pressure to eat them or we might go without.
Its important that we remember we can enjoy all foods at anytime of the year if we make the treats ourselves, allowing for fresh products to be in season or preserved.
The trick is to remember to eat healthily considering your plate/portion sizes and achieving balance on your plate.
Cooking the food from scratch means you know what's in the food and there are no hidden calories, you can also make switches with ingredients to reduce the calories without changing the taste.
Just because its Christmas you don't need to change your cooking methods, that in fact multiply the calories you eat i.e. Cooking roasts in Goose Fat instead of your spray of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Consider your plating up do you need to double up your carbohydrates i.e. you have potatoes regularly, but not the stuffing's so swap one for the other or half both portions.
The smaller plate that we use every day for plating up our meals is big enough we don't need bigger plates. i.e. Trenchers and remember Argentinian Plains rather than Mount Vesuvius.
We don't need seconds one serving is enough.
Remember when cooking and clearing away. 'Little pickers wear big knickers'. It is OK to say 'NO', treat yourself, don't overindulge, feel no guilt and enjoy.
