Welcoming the festive leftovers - Group Talk - week Commencing 16th December 2024.

Just one week left until the big day, and we are making our way through the festive meals, drinks and parties in the run up with just the Christmas and New Year week ahead.

Many of us still need to organise our shopping collecting the turkey, fresh produce, and dairy from our relevant suppliers, local butchers, dairy's, Greengrocers or supermarkets etc... Some of us are leaving it to others and are joining family and friends that have invited us around to share the festivities together. Others are helping at Care homes, Churches and Community hubs, cooking, serving and supporting those less fortunate or even enjoying the generosity of the community hubs as times are becoming tight for many.

Over the festive week its important that we enjoy this quality time together spending it with family, friends and social gatherings. Embracing the amazing food, indulging but not over indulging.

Never worry about leftovers, its not waste, it gives us chance to convert the leftovers into magnificent food for another day. One of my families favourite meals is Christmas day Soup. Where we pressure cook the carcass, removing every scrap of of meat remaining, so we benefit completely from the bone broth and all the meat. We then add the leftover vegetables, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, wine, etc... which makes the most amazing soup, which we bag and freeze for several healthy wholesome meals in the New Year, if it last that long, as Tomblin has already requested a bowl on Boxing Day.

But there are lots of ways to enjoy the Christmas leftovers and if you Google 'Christmas Leftover Recipes' lots of varied recipes come up;

  • Posh Bubble and Squeak

  • Turkey and Ham Pie

  • Pigs in Blanket Carbonara

  • Refried smashed roasties with green harissa and yogurt

  • Turkey chilli bean stew

  • Christmas pudding ice cream

  • Shredded Brussel sprout salad

  • Turkey curry

  • Cheeseboard and Onion tart

  • Panettone pudding

  • Red cabbage, cauliflower and coconut dhal

  • Cheeseboard Macaroni cheese

When it comes to boxes and tubs of sweets, biscuits... and jars of food gifted to you in hampers or extras you brought and haven't used or even fresh produced unopened and in-date you can donate to those less fortunate, saving you the extra calories.
